This last weekend IRM operated a 7 car heavyweight 1930s era train powered by its steam loco, Frisco 1630. Saturday Nite operations were also staged until midnight! Two Pullmans were operated as first class limited seating extra fare. The Private car Pawnee, recently acquired and restored, and the Dover Strait were at the end of the train followed by The Diner L&N 2726, DMIR 84, BLE 25 combine, CB&Q 1923 RPO baggage, and the MILW X5000 dynometer car. Next year the operations will include three Pullmans all restored. All seven cars were painted including the X5000 which was recently painted in MILW Orange. It was quite a show. For all you traction fans was the operation, for the first time in many many years, the North Shore Electroliner! Thanks Roger

Hi Roger,
Readers here will find excellent news and photo coverage of the event formerly known as Member's Day Weekend on the unofficial IRM blog site for the Hicks Car Works:

I follow the Passenger Department doings on the IRM Blog and the Hicks Car Works Blog. It is wonderful to see the work and details they are putting back into those cars.
The Dover Strait needed a whole window and sash restored; that took around 80 rivets! The B & LE Combine needed a whole bulkhead restored. And all those cars needed lots and lots of old paint removed! George M. Pullman would be so pleased to see so many of his cars being restored to their finery.

Perhaps next year's Members Day, the Pullman John McLoughton will be in the heavy weight train. The Passenger Department has brought it back from work train service.

My only ride in a Pullman heavy weight car was down in Mexico, before the Mexican government nationalized the company.

This is a wonderful sight to see and it represents many thousands of work across the past 30+ years.

I have a few questions:

Is the Galt House cleared to serve meals again?

Was there a pot of chili cooking in the X5000 - a tradition particular to this car: https://web.archive.org/web/20051124224445/http://www.millcreeksystems.com/X-5000.htm
