 Post subject: J&L Narrow Gauge Dirt Trains

We recently had an opportunity for our railroad to do some useful work as we moved side dump carloads of dirt from one end of the railroad to the other. Some might call this "living history", we call it "getting it done!".

The far end of our mainline is on a grade of 6%, which was done somewhat on purpose so that 58 would have to work going up the track. She puts on quite a show and it requires a bit of firing and running skill to keep from stalling on the hill, especially on wet days.

I love that stack talk, and it's great to see a locomotive doing legit work.
So neat to see the other two locos just like yours sitting nearby waiting for their turn...

Fascinating. I'm assuming the rectangular shape of the engines was to get as much engine as possible and still fit somewhere at J&L they had to go.
