Just found these 2 former tank car tanks up for auction in Carthage Missouri. One is a 2-dome tank... I was thinking there probably isnt many 2-dome tank cars in preservation. Bidding starts at $1.00, and closes in 3 days. Might??? be a cheap / easy aquisition for someone. Concrete supports are to be left behind.....

Are there any 2-dome cars preserved?
Im not sure which tank is 6'x24', and which is 7'x30'....

Two, at least, at Steamtown and IRM.

There's a two dome tankcar displayed behind the Frisco 4-8-4 at Route 66 Village in Tulsa, OK.

Don - Thanks for that info. Looked up the car on the internet and found this:

Looks like the folks decided to destroy the cars heritage by repainting it, applying various oil company logos and also removing the running boards. Well, at least the car was saved.

Frank -

The reference to the photo on flickr shows an unlettered car. I found a note going back to 2005 which lists a tank car at Steamtown as follows:

NATX # 4573, built AC&F in 1925

I'm assuming that this is the info for the two domed car you mentioned, unless there is another car at Steamtown.

On my way to a rocket launch in central Kansas from Southwest MO, I saw no less than five flying tank cars. Couldn't tell you if they were two or three dome, but pretty cool nonetheless. There are probably a lot of examples spread across the midwest - pretty sure I saw one or two still on their frames.

Was going through some photos I took a number of years ago at the B&O Museum in Baltimore and stumbled across a shot of a 2-dome tank car; GRYX #805. From their website, I found that the car was originally built for the Texas & New Orleans in 1918 and became a John H. Grace & Company car in the mid-1920's. Rebuilt a couple of times but now in its last 2-dome configuration at the museum.

Found another two-dome tank car! This one is N.A.T.X. # 18902 and part of the Western New York Railway Historical Society collection. The car is a bit unusual in that its two domes are toward the middle of the car, rather than separated. WNYRHS apparently has two sites and I'm not sure where this car is actually located.
