Jim Wrinn has passed away. He was a great guy. This is a great loss for railroad preservation.

Jim was a wonderful friend. I miss him already. In his years at Trains, he did so much for the Preservation Movement. Peace, my friend, peace.

A great loss to the hobby and the industry. The Trains Magazine EMD AT 100 video that arrived today in the mail identifies Jim as Executive Producer. He championed the project and invited many of the people who took part in it.

One of preservation's heroes is now with the locomotives he loves.

A big loss. I had heard Jim had the Big C but was hoping they were able to hold it off. Clearly, they couldn't.

Jim was a true preservationist with the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer and posting on this forum before he got the Trains job. He was a qualified engineer on NCTM 2-8-0 604 (BC&G 4).

Professionally he had been with the Charlotte Obesrver newspaper before Trains. When I was at Ft. Bragg NC, I felt the Observer was the best newspaper in the region. It has won 5 Pulitzers.

We'll all miss him.

A sad, sad day. Jim was a true rail preservationist.

A good friend of steam and railroading in general and a gentleman for sure.

He shall be missed. RIP, Ross Rowland

Very sorry to hear about this. I never really met him but we did have a little bit of correspondence when he helped me get on the Welcome Back 1309 trip via wait list. RIP.

He lived down the street from me in Concord during the growth phase at Spencer in which we were both involved, a very long time ago....... as I recall, as a more junior member of the reporting staff at the time he had the duty of babysitting the PTL implosion on site, but happily was right there when the Jim and Tammy thing actually blew up. Gave him national coverage.

Bon voyage.......

RIP Jim. I had very little interaction with Jim. He came around as the Polson #2 was nearing it debut under pressure. I liked him immediately and thought highly of him. No doubt most people feel the same way. Blessings.

That describes all of the times we happened to cross paths. Gentleman, gentle man, able to herd cats (or at least digital-age-resistant souls), armed with a stock of great stories...I’d have loved to hear him talk about the PTL mess and how he navigated those choppy waters! Here’s hoping for clear track all the way up.

This is horrible news. Condolences to the family.

It was also pretty unexpected. I just looked again at the April issue and no indication he was ill. His lead editorial appeared as if nothing was wrong.
