No. Pole wheels should be sort of pulley shaped. These have a normal single-flange profile with extra-wide flat treads. It wouldn't do well on normal three-foot track, though.

If you are looking for an Alco diesel you may want to consider the S-2 sitting near the shop at the Hanson quarry outside of Bennettsville, SC. This used to be a Becker Sand and Gravel operation and the S-2 was the last engine they operated on the plant railroad. I am not sure who owns the Alco now but it is a South Carolina locomotive that needs to be saved. It last ran ten years ago or more but I assume could be put back into service.

Last time I went by there, both the Alco and the PDR Geep had dissapeared. That's been at least five or six years ago now. Do you know for a fact tha this engine is still there?

How many of you have been in this situation?

Is it ever really finished??????????????????

Some of these stories have made it into the fan magazines over the years.

Sure would enjoy reading some more.

The paint should still be wet when the first train leaves.

At some point we stop caling it restoration and start calling it running repairs.

I have to go to Bennettsville next week. I will go by and check on the Alco. The 210 and CF-7 2594 are behind the PDRY shop and we have just about reduced them to scrap.

done that at TVRM

One year TVRM painted several cars just before an excursion, and the consist left the museum for the Chatta. food terminal (departure point for Sou/TVRM mainline trips) with the masking paper still in place. By the halfway point on the Sou. Ry belt line the tape was letting go and sheets of paper fluttered and flapped in the breeze.

The undercurrrent to this thread seems to relate to our need to attract more public interest in what we do and new members (a fresh source of volunteers).

The Alco is still behind the Hanson shop bearing the number 5 on the cab and 7104 in the front number boards. It looks like a S-2. Several of the hood doors are open and it is getting pretty rusty but is mostly complete down to the footboards. You can not see it from the road but if you go in the shop driveway to the railroad crossing it will be sitting on the fill in front of you. If you want more information plaease contact me off link.

Good luck. This one needs to be saved before Hanson decides to scrap it.
