I'll be visiting Steamtown in Scranton this weekend for the first time since the Reoundhouse and Museum complex opened (I did visit once prior to that, just barely into the Park Service era).
Any suggestions for must-see things to do? Any thoughts on good photo locations between Scranton and Moscow?

Hello, a few things to check out at the site...
1) A shop tour to see BLW 26, CN 3254, B&M 3713 and PRR 1361 is a must. Big steam repair unlike anywhere else. If you can, get on a tour with ranger Ken Ganz or Tim O'Malley or Bill Clarck.
2) Even though the 2317 will be the only steamer running, the NKP 514 will be out doing caboose hops with a nice DL&W Hack, good for shots in afternoon sunlight.
3) Be careful, every steamtown train is preceeded by a D-L RR hi rail truck manned by a zealous railroad cop, so keep trespassing ethics in mind.
4) First place to see the train in action would be at a place called "ridge row" just past the Lackawanna station. This is where the speeed limit goes from 15 to 35 and engineers will hit the throttle right there, and the stack talk is nice, accessable from the road behind the University of Scranton.
5) Elmhurst Reservoir is along PA rt 435 off of I-380. Cliffs overlook the resovoir and a nice shot, particularly on the early trip, is possible as the 2317 emerges from the trees. Prior to the reservoir, when Rt 435 goes over the tracks on a bridge, make a right just after the bridge and go about a quarter mile down, there will be a nice clearing facing a curve on your right.
6) The turntable is typically used prior to ten and after 4:30. Nice steam era shots are possible in the am particularly as the crew will clean the fire and visitors are encouraged to watch.
Hope this helps.
Dave in Scranton
