Dear Stakeholder:

Re: Feasibility of Rail Access to Liberty State Park, Course #:34:970:510:03
Graduate Student Design Studio, Fall 2008.

As a person who has an interest in Liberty State Park, you are cordially invited to attend a Power Point presentation by class members on “Feasibility of Rail Access to Liberty State Park” at Liberty State Park Terminal Building, 4pm, Wednesday, December 10, 2008.

The presentation will review the study’s purpose, what was reviewed and analyzed, and what conclusions were reached by the class. A written report in detail will follow later in December. If you would like to have an electronic copy, please send your request to the undersigned: billvigrass@verizon.net. Only a few hard copies will be printed for principals of the study. If you plan to attend the presentation, please notify Dr. Frank Gallagher, Administrator of Liberty State Park: frank.gallagher@dep.state.nj.us so that he will know how many persons to accommodate.

Briefly, the study explored means to provide a railroad track connection between the historic CRRNJ Terminal and Conrail/CSX to allow historic rolling stock owned by the United Railway Historical Society (of NJ) to move selected pieces of their historic rolling stock to LSP for display. The class also explored means to provide a Heritage Trolley transit service within the park to connect NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line with the CNJ Terminal and the ferry landing for Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty Island boats. A purpose of the transit line is to provide convenient, environmentally and historically correct transit within the park to minimize use of personal automobiles. Several ex-Newark City Subway trolley cars are owned by Friends of NJ Transportation Heritage Center and would be made available.

We seek your review and comments on our proposed program.

Yours truly,

J. William Vigrass, Part Time Lecturer
