Wanted: EMD porthole sash weather stripping - looking for a source. EMD (RSI) says 8 wk delivery at very high cost. Has anyone found an alternate source recently? EMD part number 8116587.
Also used as gasketing around outer numberboard glass. Photo attached.
Thanks,

I would suggest doing a search for gasketed glazing materials, or rubber window seals. I am not sure if you will get exactly what your need, but there a few companies that make rubber gaskets for affixing a piece of glass within a hole cut through a steel plate.

Check out the ones here: http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/shop ... rtmentId=4

A railroad preservation operation in New Zealand very recently finished restoring an old EMD unit - might see of it is more readily available down under.

I would suggest Dynamic Metals in Louisville, KY. Your gasket is very close, if not identical to the gasket used in Southern Railway caboose windows. I think we got it from J.T. Nelson, who is now Dynamic Metals. I can't remember the fellow in engineering that I talked with, but he is preferable to the folks in sales especially if you're in a hurry...

I am currently restoring an EMD E8 at the Monticello Railway Museum in Illinois. I am having a company quote new production of this window weatherstrip. I need 60ft for the E8 porthole windows and headlight. How much of the weatherstrip are you needing?
