Post subject:  Iron brakeshoes
Does anyone have or know of any stashes of iron freight car brakeshoes? We use low friction composition shoes but in our service they just don't perform like the iron shoes.

The AAR-1 1 1/2" thick shoes, made in Mexico, are the ones most easily available. The 2" thick AAR-2 "passenger shoes" seem to be unobtainium.

Phil I still own the patterns to the J.K. Byrne brake shoes, that were for the 26" wheel and the D&RGW brake head (that had the 35# rail as the brake beam), these were used on the C&TS and many other NG RR's in the 80's and 90's, we delivered them by the 50 gall drum back them.

Thanks for the responses. I have located a limited supply of the B1 shoes which is what I was initially looking for and a connection to a pattern for the D&RG 26" wheel shoes.
