This is kind of interesting information. Got me to thinking that maybe someone should start a thread on the Interchange portion of RyPN about preserved railroad equipment that served schools. We have a Purdue University self-propelled Orton crane and Porter center cab diesel #5332 from Notre Dame University at Hoosier Valley. I know that the Indiana Transportation Museum has the other Purdue Orton crane. And I seem to recall another self propelled crane from another eastern school (Rutger's perhaps?) that almost made it to preservation. Now comes the word on this GE at MSU! Let's hope that she ends up being saved.

In reference to my entry above, I happened to find the thread on the INTERCHANGE section of RyPN and the crane I was thinking about was Cornell University #8, a steam crane scrapped in 2010. Not Rutgers. Sorry.
