We are scrapping two diners that had been part of a restaurant in Vernon, CA (Los Angeles area). The two cars are so compromised that they could never move again, so it's off to the scrap heap. We plan to save as much equipment as possible and offer it for sale.

Many parts will be offered at scrap value. You pay what it weighs at current scrap prices and haul it off, and we will be more than happy to give it to you.

The first car is an ex-Southern Pacific diner/lounge. It began life as a Pullman Standard barbershop lounge and was converted by the SP into a diner lounge for use on trains such as the Lark.

Most of the original interior is gone, and there is significant water damage and corrosion.

The trucks are inside swinghanger slab equalized with dual coil springs on the equalizers.

It has clasp brakes, and all of the brake rigging appears to be intact.

All four axles have AP-EE bearings. Wheels are likely rim stamped - I can't get into there to see for sure. All have good thickness.

The brakes on the car are D-22, and the last COTS was in 1994. All of the brake valves appear to be usable (except quick service). No decelostats or mounts on the car.

Car has 8 AP-EE journal box adapters, which we will likely retain.

No couplers.

Car has Waukesha air conditioning unit and generator still installed. Might be usable.

Water tanks and filler valves available.

The second car is a former Santa Fe lunch counter/diner. It's also a Pullman Standard car. The underside of the car is covered and not very accessible for now. That should change soon, once we finish cutting up car number 1 above.

One side of the car has stainless steel fluting in decent shape. The sign and number boards are gone. The other side of the car is junk. Two doors have been cut in the side, and a lot of the fluting was stolen.

The interior of the car is somewhat more original. It appears that the lunch counter and stainless steel cabinets, etc. are still in place and fairly original. The lunch counter stools are in place and in good shape.

All of the original kitchen is gone and was converted into the restaurant kitchen.

No original electrical equipment.

Trucks are inside swing hanger with drop equalizers. Dual coil springs at each end of the equalizers. Wide pedestal jaws per Santa Fe practice.

Clasp brakes. All the brake rigging appears intact.

Wheels are all grease/oil bearings, a mixture of Hyatt and Timken bearings. Most have very good thickness.

At least two P-3 decelostat axle controllers are on the car. Protection and release valves are probably in place.

D-22 brakes appear to still be intact and on the car. Last COTS was in 1991.

No couplers installed in the car.

Water tank and filler valves still in place.

Please contact me at llafro (at) yahoo.com for more information or to arrange a time to look at the parts.

All this stuff is either going to a new home or to scrap in the next few weeks. If you want to save something, just let us know.
