I'm looking for a home for a 44 ton Davenport. Built 1954 for US Army then "cocooned" until the mid 70s when the current owner purchased it. The company that owns it needs it removed ASAP. They would like to donate it to a non-profit, who would be responsible for moving it. It was rebuilt in the late 80s with new wiring, wheels, bearings, etc plus both diesels were rebuilt. They are CAT D17000s. Please email me for pix and details. Must act quickly or it will need to be scrapped. I have a shipper located who has provided quotes to load and truck within 200 miles. The building it is stored next to is slated for demolition. Location Northern NJ...

"both diesels were rebuilt. They are CAT D17000s"

Aren't these the engines used in GE 44-tonners, reputedly scarce as hen's teeth? If you scrap the unit, maybe you should pull the engines out, if you have a place to store them.

Please contact the Danbury Rail museum. They could use another small, working unit.
