The Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad is offering a MOW charter train on Saturday October 3rd. Many of the cars in this consist haven't run since they underwent multi-year rebuilds. There is a slideshow for ticket holders in the Friends CRF in Antonito Friday October 2nd hosted by Ernie Robart who was the unofficial chronicler for the last days of the DRGW narrow gauge as well as taking something like 9,000 slides recording the efforts of the first volunteer group who worked so hard putting the CATS back together after the states bought it. Ticket holders also get to witness on Sunday October 4th the first time operation of BOTH the steam piledriver, and the steam powered derrick which are probably the ONLY OPERATIONAL steam powered units of their type in North America today. Now there are FIVE tickets, better not miss the train. Remember the proceeds from ticket sales goes to support the historic preservation work done by the Friends. |
