Robert, Original poster was looking to use the off the shelf double bulb holder applied in the E & F unit headlight housings. No need to jump the resistor, GE 44 Ton headlights are full 64/72 Vdc at the bulb. Your idea might work, but I would worry about the weight of the bulb and the resulting moment force destroying the socket, the 250W PAR bulb is about 4+ times the weight of the OEM incandescent bulb and you still need to add the adapter.
