The Baltimore Chapter NRHS is chartering a special "mixed train" photo charter on the Strasburg Rail Road, using the line's temporary leased freight diesel power, Maine Eastern rebuilt GP9 764. This will most likely be the ONLY opportunity for the public to ride behind this loco (built in April 1954 as Union Pacific 185, later Amtrak 764) during its brief stay at the railroad before it is returned to its owners at the Morristown & Erie.
Departs Strasburg 9 AM - Returns 11:30 AM
$35 Chapter Members
$45 Non-Chapter Members
$20 Ride Only – No Photo Line privileges except at station
Limited to 70 Photographers, 50 Non-Photographer Riders
This trip will run on the morning of May 28th 2016, before regular Strasburg passenger operations that day. It will feature 764, two vintage Strasburg coaches, and vintage freight cars from Strasburg's own collection, including Maryland & Pennsylvania cars. IF revenue inbound/outbound freight cars can be made available to be included in the train, they will be included or even substitute for the vintage cars, making this a truly legitimate mixed train!
At least three photo run-bys/stops available only to riders, plus switching at Leaman Place and Strasburg and a meet with the 11 AM steam passenger train at Groff's Grove, are planned. Efforts will be taken to make the train "unattractive" to "freeloaders" at public crossings, so sign on for the best photos and videos!
Trip will be limited to 70 passengers to maximize photo opportunities and speed boarding and unloading at photo locations. Non-photographer riders can photograph the train at East Strasburg and Leaman Place, but not at photo stops elsewhere on the line.
This trip is also being planned with enough time for riders to head to the Wilmington & Western Railroad (approximately one hour away) after returning to watch or ride its official debut of B&O SW-1 8408 and B&O caboose C-2013 returning to service after a long restoration as part of the excursion line's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Riders may also choose to sign up with the railroad for a noon shop tour of the Strasburg's extensive shops complex (approximately one hour, separate $18.50 fee), ride a regular Strasburg run behind steam, or visit the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania (separate fees apply; the two offer a combined visit-and-ride package).
Baltimore Chapter NRHS members receive a discount of $10, two-thirds of a Chapter membership yearly fee--so if you are already an NRHS member at large or of another Chapter, join the Baltimore Chapter and ride the trip for almost the same price as you would otherwise pay! (Membership information at the link below.)
For postal orders, send a check for the appropriate number of tickets along with contact information (name, address, phone number, e-mail) to:

A limited number of fares may be sold trackside the morning of the trip--cash only, exact change please.
Trip will operate rain or shine. No refunds unless your reservation can be resold. All passengers must sign a waiver before boarding. All bookings are through the Chapter, not the railroad. No tickets will be mailed out; check in will be at the railroad that morning. Subject to cancellation for inadequate bookings, or early return by 11 AM if railroad passenger traffic demands warrant.
