Post subject:  Historic DRI&NW Depot in Moline to be Demolished on Monday

The historic 1900 Moline, IL depot will be demolished on Monday, June 20th, to make way for an exit ramp off of I-74. It's amazing that the depot will be demolished because it's in the way, yet just 30 yards to the west is an old warehouse which will not be torn down.
For years, the Moline Preservation Society has worked to save the building, and came real close, but the people interested backed down from the offer after realizing the repair costs.

Monday will be a sad day in Illinois and American railroad history as another depot is lost to the wrecking ball. Many of my friends who work(ed) for the railroad have told me it's almost like seeing an old friend pass away. Realizing that, it will be especially hard for us youngsters because most of us, including me, have never gone through a loss like this. It's truly heartbreaking. I feel bad for the Moline Preservation Society and all of the Quad Cities area railfans because all of their hard work has gone in vain.

If you can make it to the Quad Cities this weekend, be sure to take as many pictures as you can for memories of this American icon which will soon be only available on the history books.
