Available immediately to a good home. The West Chester Railroad Heritage Assoc has their 1889 Jackson & Sharp Day Coach available preferably to a qualified 501 c 3 organization. Coach and restoration materials are included. Not included are the Pullman coach lights and the 10 restored Dayton walk-over seats which can be purchased separately. We will not part the coach out to sell items. Further information can be seen on Facebook/Illinois Car Works. PM Fred Heilich for further details. Serious inquiries only, no wheel knockers.

Fred

Is this a former Steamtown Foundation car?

Yes it is. SEPTA is taking back the storage facility for their extension of service to Wawa. Of the original team, I'm the only one still alive, but no longer live in the area.

I guess I am a little confused. When I google the West Chester Railroad Heritage Assoc it comes up as a fairly active group with a tourist operation and quite a roster of equipment. This day coach is not shown as part of their collection. Can you help me out with the disconnect?

Many thanks,
J.R. May

This was a special project car that the WCRHA got from Steamtown. The items listed on the WCRR/WCRHA site are for the active or once active equipment. This car was never on the active list as it was to be restored so it never listed.

What is the car's history?

There is a brief history of the car with then and now photos on Facebook/Illinois Car Works. Briefly, the coach is an 1889 Jackson & Sharp Day Coach. The car was originally part of a 1889 30 car order for the Quebec Montmorency and Charlevoix Railway in Quebec, Canada, which later became the Quebec Railway Light & Power which operated until 1958. The coach was part of F Nelson Blount's Steamtown collection. This car transitioned into the Steamtown collection in Scranton until it came to the West Chester Railroad Heritage Assoc.
