Post subject:  Red River and Gulf Railroad Book

The Southern Forest Heritage Museum at Long Leaf, LA has just published a short new book on the Red River and Gulf Railroad which served the sawmill at Long Leaf (now the museum) from 1905 to 1954.

The railroad served several sawmills and permanent logging camps in western Louisiana, among them the now ghosts towns of Kurthwood, Alco, Hutton, Sieper, Bolton, Meridian, Cocodrie and Long Leaf.

Two locomotives from the RR&G survive, 4-4-0 #104 is at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA after serving on the Stone Mountain Railroad, and 4-6-0 #106 is stored at SFHM.

The book is available for a postage paid price of $17.50 from the museum at:
P.O. Box 101
Long Leaf, LA 71448

All proceeds go directly to the museum as it is definitely a non profit organization.
