2002 is the oldest FL9 in existence - it was originally New Haven 2005.

New Haven 2002, Built 1957 by EMD for New Haven, rebuilt 1985 by Chrome Loco at Silvis, IL for Connecticut DOT commuter service. Rebuild included all new low and high voltage wiring, body repairs and HEP conversion. 2002 was in service until 2002 on Metro-North/CDOT routes. It was operated by our group intermittently until 2011.

Loco has EMD 567C 16-cylinder two-cycle engine, 26L brakes, decent wheels, tightlock couplers, FRA Part 223 glazing, some cab signal equipment in place, Cummins 855 HEP engine and 350KW HEP generator (not operated by us), had two cylinder heads replaced 2010.

Needs batteries, full 26 air work, one radiator section, cosmetic body work and paint.

Many photos and more details available. Located in central Connecticut on live rail. Inspection is encouraged. Please, serious inquires only. Asking $50,000.

Out of my own curiosity Howard, why is this unit being sold lest instead of the #2019? My understanding was #2002 was one of the oldest units still in preservation. Wasn't there originally a plan to restore her? I don't mean to sound rude.

I'll take my chances in not ticking off Howard by answering this, but why would RMNE even consider selling off 2019??

2019 has had a lot of major work done on it in the last several years, and is probably in the best condition it has been in for many years. It is in regular service with the Christmas trains this month, and the paint job and body work it received before the Spencer event is still factory fresh.

2002, the unit for sale, was upgraded and is almost a twin to 2019. The other FL-9 in the RMNE collection, 2033, is virtually untouched, more of a time capsule from when it was built. I believe the Museum's intent is to have one example of 'as built' and one example of 'modernized'.

My hope is that one of the tourist operators, with a somewhat longer run where she can really stretch her legs, purchases 2002. There are several operators that use, or are going to begin using F units, and an FL-9 would fit right in.

MNCR 2033, aka NH 2059, is the last F-unit built by EMD (November 1960). It's much more a historic locomotive than 2002.
