Hi everyone, first post here. I am a member of the Whitman County Historical Society, located in the south east corner of Washington State. We recently purchased the former Northern Pacific Depot in Pullman Washington for restoration. The previous owner of the depot had purchased several passenger cars, a caboose and small steam locomotive and assembled a faux train on the depot platform. As part of our restoration plans for the depot we want to remove two of the cars and the steam locomotive, keeping the caboose and one car. To make a long story short, the two passenger cars that we want to move are in such bad shape that they are not work trying to restore. Therefore we felt that as unfortunate as it is, scrapping is the best option for us. The cars had the original windows replaced with house style windows that were never sealed, and the interior of the cars are now filled with rust and mold. We had representatives from the Inland Northwest Railroad Museum come and take a look at our equipment to asses the condition. INRM has recently completed a move of its rail equipment and we felt they could give us a good idea of the feasibility of moving ours. Their assessment was that the cars are not worth restoring, given the condition of our cars and availability of passenger cars currently. About the only things worth saving are the couplers from the two cars, four total of AAR type H, the draft gears, (four), and possibility the truck side frames from one car. I will attach pictures in the next few posts

Here are close ups of the trucks. The wheels are at or near minimum legal thickness, the bearings are plain bearings shoved into roller bearing boxes, greased up enough to get the cars into their current location. The truck side frames may be worth saving, however there is no brake gear available with them. There is one pair of these trucks in this condition available, free to anyone willing to haul them away once we scrap out the car bodies.

Here is the trucks on the middle car. As you can see there are several major components missing. Wheels are at or near minimum legal thickness, plain bearings inside roller bearing boxes. If anyone has a use for the side frames you see here, they are free to whoever wants to haul them away once we scrap the cars out.

Lastly couplers. Four complete AAR type H couplers and draft gears available free to anyone willing to haul them away once we scrap the cars. Also available (again free) is any smaller pieces such as brake wheels, brake wheel ratchets, cut levers and the like. Please feel free to ask questions, I'd like to see any and all usable parts go towards other car restoration projects. We are a non profit that understands the funding and time limits of non profit groups, and we are willing to work with anyone that has a legitimate interest in any usable parts. Thanks, Matt Farnsworth
