From my map, it looks as if Wixom is just to the north, and a bit east, of Ann Arbor.

You are correct!

Wixom is very close to Walled Lake, where the Michigan Star Clipper Dinner Train operated for many years.

The Korex Corporation in Wixom, Michigan is looking to dispose of its old GE 25 Tonner switching locomotive. I have been told that it was converted to electric power a long time ago. The controls went bad about 2 years ago and they bought a newer Trackmobile 4000.The apparatus on the back of the locomotive was added for better braking. It is an air compressor and fittings. At the very least the locomotive would make for an excellent display piece.

There is currently no deadline in moving the locomotive, however it sounds like Korex would like to find it a new home as soon as possible. They seem to be very easy to work with.

PM me if you would like contact information for Korex.

I have never seen this locomotive in person. I just happened to inquire about it, and they gave me a lot of information!

It is located here: 42.526681, -83.542188

Interesting, but I don't believe it is electric. I think that rumor might have been started by some mischievous wag trying to start a rumor! In order to put enough batteries in to make it run for a useful amount of time, you would have to take the prime mover out. In order to do that, you'd have to remove the hood. In order to remove the hood, you'd have to remove the exhaust stack - and why would you put it back on if you didn't need it any more?

As for the apparatus on the back, that's just a cheap and quick way to get a train air supply without having to try to fit a compressor driven by the prime mover, which would be more complicated and expensive.

Happy to be proven wrong, though ;-)

Just a drop cord long enough to reach across their yard.

Every GE 25 tonner would have been built with an engine-driven air compressor. That makes this contraption all the stranger. Did someone go to a lot of trouble just to avoid replacing a failed original compressor?
