Doe River Gorge Ministries has a unique summer job opportunity available as a member of our railroad maintenance team. We are non-denominational Christian camp located in the mountains of northeastern Tennessee, which offers adventure programs, and is named for the Doe River which flows through a deep gorge which is part of the camp property. It also includes a scenic section of the historic East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad which established the narrow-gauge route through the gorge in the 1880’s, which the camp has restored and operates. During the summer months, the railroad is used on weekdays to transport campers to and from several activities in the gorge and on weekends, scenic rides are offered to the public and to the parents dropping off their children for summer camp.

Each summer we recruit young men and women as counselors and activity staff, and this coming summer we are also looking to add three additional staff members to assist with the railroad. The position will be focused on maintenance of the track and right of way, but will also assist with railroad operations and possibly the new Christmas Train project. On certain days and times, the interns may be asked to also assist with general camp operations and logistics.

It should be stressed that we are looking for young people of faith who are interested first in ministry and spiritual growth and in railroads second. Each summer the DRG staff becomes a tight-knit community, growing in their faith; the interns will be housed, and otherwise living in this community.

Dates are somewhat negotiable, but the preferred start date is May 16th and runs through August 11th with a break during the week of June 29th. Room and board will be provided plus a salary of $310 per week and a bonus of $800 at the end of summer if the intern works the entire 11 weeks.

Additionally, some work sessions in April and early May are expected which the applicant could also join if available then.

Preference will be given to applicants at least 18 years old by May 16, 2025, but consideration may also be given to those 17 years old and entering their senior year of high school in the Fall of 2025.

Apply by April 25, 2025
