Saw this post about the IMAX film Rocky Mountain Express on Klat.com today: http://klat.com/arts-entertainment/movi ... anada-rail I left a comment at the end of it explaining the history of the engine and informing readers the sad news that this movie is probably the only place we can see this engine in operation for some time to come. At least she got the IMAX treatment. |

I watched Rocky Mountain Express 2-3 times at the St. Louis Science Center. I absolutely loved it! I give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs WAY up. I would recommend the movie to any railfan. The footage is phenomenal, and you actually learn some things about the Canadian Pacific. Plus, CP #2816 never looked, or sounded, so good (in my opinion). It's a shame, though, to think that we may not see her run for a while. She is a beautiful locomotive, and I would love to see her run in person. |

I wish I could have seen that film, yet in a way it's just as well I didn't go--it looks just too beautiful, too much a reminder of what we threw away, and wish we had back. . .at least on weekends. . . |

Glad you got to see it. How did the crowd look? Did the movie look like it had good ticket sales? And what was the makeup of the audience itself? Would be nice to get an audience beyond the Thomas the Tank Engine set. |

I really think Rocky Mountain Express should be released on DVD or Bluray. Yes, it won't be exactly the same as seeing it in an IMAX theater, but this movie is too good to either keep it confined or let it disappear. The footage of CanP #2816 is absolutely spectacular. The sounds make you feel like you are right there with #2816. The scenery is breath-taking and gorgeous. There is a very good balance between the history of the Canadian Pacific and footage of #2816's run. The amount of narration throughout the movie is good. I wish I could have seen it one time at the St. Louis Science Center (and I've already seen it twice). If it is released on DVD or Bluray, it will easily become one of my favorite movies to watch. |
