Post subject:  Headlight ID?

Saw this on an episode of "American Pickers' It's in a barn they were picking.

I don't own it, don't know where it is, and don't know anything about it. At first glance I thought it was a very old locomotive headlight. Then after looking closer, I started to doubt that it was.

Can anyone ID this thing?

The main thing that has me doubting it's a headlight is the vent on top, it doesn't have the typical shape you see on a headlight. It's round, rather than folded over in a way that blocks the wind.

It is a headlight used on a steam traction engine.
