I just got back on Monday from an Amtrak round trip to Denver and back via Sacramento. I listened to a minute or 2 of the video just to see what it sounded like, and I immediately started to drift off. Guess I'll keep it in mind for the next bout of insomnia. Either that or "counting cars." One boxcar, two boxcars, three boxcars, four boxcars,...uhh...five boxcars,...unnh...six...boxcars,...ummff...seven...yawn...boxcars,...zzzzzzzzzz.

I will admit Amtrak sleepers are usually quieter than the video, unless one of the vestibule doors at the end of the car gets stuck on open because the air in the pneumatics doesn't repressurize. Clankety-clank-clank-clankety. A word of caution to the inexperienced Amtrak traveler: the worst section to try and nod off on the western half of the California Zephyr route is on the former SP/WP mains between Winnemucca and the west end of the Salt Lake basin. Very rough track.

Remind me not to drive behind you when chasing 611...
