You have badly confused the Railroad Museum of Pa. in Strasburg (home of PRR K4s 3750 and other PRR steam) and the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona.

Still wrong, however. The Railroaders Memorial Museum was opened in 1980. I should know; I was one of the founding donors and was there for the opening.

Now, if you mean 1361 was brought down off the Curve in 1985 too far in advance of the Museum's capability to adequately restore and care for it, that's an entirely different discussion, one which fosters a "chicken or egg" question--namely, would the Museum have grown past its one building and open yard had it not had the publicity and attention from the 1361 project? Roundhouse, Master Mechanics Building, etc.?

And, of course, had 1361 been left up there, what shape would it be in now?

If still on the curve, I have visions of rusticles and C&O 2700 or 2760.

Edit 11/4:

Was curious regarding her time on The Curve. 1361 spent 28 years parked on the curve. She left Horseshoe 29 years ago...
