Hello forum members!

I wish to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm a life-long train enthusiast with an affection for steam power (shocking, I know) looking to expand my knowledge of the railroad industry both past and present. Several years back I stumbled upon the preservation forum and found many of the topics so engaging and informative that I began to follow the discussion on a weekly basis. After spending considerable time as a guest to the forum, I now wish to converse with, and learn from, such a knowledgable group of people who share a passion for trains.

Looking forward to lively and informative discussion.

Hello, Frank,

And welcome to RyPN, which I think is about the best forum on the internet. . .even if a few members sometimes come across just a little strongly (and I have to admit, that has included me!)

Anyway, to get the ball rolling, well, you know a lot of us have wondered, "How do we get young guys into this field?" So many of us, not to mention the "outsiders," think we're a bunch of old guys who like to play with really big trains. Now, to a certain extent that can be true--but it's been so long since, say, steam has been gone, that I think most of us are now post-steam and post private railroad passenger service. One can't say we're all made up of people who remember those things in regular service anymore!

Which brings up something that has always interested me of late, and has been of interest to others here, too--what brings in a young'un like you to this antiquated stuff? How might we bring more in?

Turns out, we've had a thread on just this subject, and in the interest of keeping things handy, let's haul it out again.

Again, thanks for coming in, and I look forward to seeing what you might add to this group.
