Here are two short, new videos, the first on Adirondack Scenic's Aug 1 Utica-Thendara run, the second showing a railcar excursion, also videoed on Aug 1, of a railcar excursion on the Utica branch of the NYS&W:

Here are two videos showing the Adirondack's Utica-Big Moose, NY "Big Moose Limited" (not its official name though I fancy it) polishing the rails.

This is a 128 mile round trip. The train departs Utica approx 9:30am, stops in Thendara approx 2 hours later where passengers may spend the day and others may board for the add'l 12 mile trip to Big Moose.

Once in Big Moose, passengers may eat lunch at the former New York Central passenger station (it is now a restaurant, the Big Moose Station Restaurant, http://www.bigmoosestation.com/ , before beginning the 64 mile return trip to Utica.

No regular passenger service exists between Big Moose and Saranac Lake although the line is used to handle equipment moves to sustain its Saranac Lake-Lake Placid service. Lake Placid is 77 miles north of Big Moose.

The first video, "Big Moose Limited" is long by my standards (16:01) but shows highlights of the entire first leg of the Utica-Big Moose run, including a passenger "meet" in Thendara, the public address announcement re arrival of the Big Moose train in Thendara and runaround action in Big Moose:

The second video, "Return from Big Moose", is much shorter (2:39) and features a few scenes on the last 10 miles of the Adirondack's return run from Big Moose on Aug 13th.

Finally, off topic though transportation-related, this video features a long-ago formidable railroad competitor in action, "Barging Along on the Erie Canal" (5:41):

The NYS&W ran a test train over the 20 miles of track between Sangerfield-Sherburne yesterday. The line was embargoed in Nov 2009 making this the first run to Sherburne in 6 years.

Here's the video:

This video features a shoving move by the NYS&W down street trackage in Utica, NY. Street moves will become more common here now that the siding/runaround just south of Schuyler St has been taken OOS.
