Just something fun--a fast pass by ATSF 3751 in 2010. What's most remarkable for me is the applause and cheers from the crowd for this "dinosaur" from 1927: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eggYBVAYiI |

This one is "AWESOME" from east Rochelle IL on 7-18-09. Just listen to this member of the public react to the SP 4449. Tune the video to 2 minutes into video to see it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4U3u1lwHRqU ---- Daniel |

This illustrates the point much better... Many new railfans where created that day! 611 on the Blue Ridge grade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W80uOa9 ... GYD2ZbB8zg And the triumphant return to Roanoke...Notice how the crowd reacts to her, even when she slips a little .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni-nUyETZzI Talk about making the case for mainline steam, and good press.. The 611's return from Spencer to Roanoke is the gold standard... Local TV reported at least 15,000 people came out to see her on her trip back. Andy J |

Andy, thank you for posting those wonderful videos of the 611 and her admiring crowds. I can add no comment, no adjective that could express the enthusiasm these people had on that day for the black beauty from Roanoke. |
