Recently, I took these pictures at the post office in Sellersville, PA. Inside that 1930s building is a beautiful art deco mural depicting the various modes of transportation at that time for the US Mail. I felt that the audience here would appreciate and may also encounter similar things in their travels.

Built in the 1930s? Bet it's a WPA project! Today that would be considered "wasteful government spending," especially if it incorporated a mural that you had to pay a "liberal" artist to paint. Yet those "wasteful" projects (and there were people who thought that of the Works Progress Administration even then) put people to work and improved our public infrastructure immensely. A lot of those projects, including this post office, are still useful today. |

The Joel Solomon Federal Building in Chattanooga, Tennessee has a WPA mural in the third floor courtroom. One of the prominent items is a wood burning steam locomotive. Look up "The Allegory of Chattanooga" by Joseph Hilton Leech. |
