Here's a link to the story over at CBC. It's a radio interview, almost 4 minutes long: Canadian rail company has no explanation after 47-car train goes missing http://www.cbc.ca/radio/thisisthat/baby-proof-house-of-commons-two-man-choir-lost-train-volunteer-mcdonald-s-1.3224546/canadian-rail-company-has-no-explanation-after-47-car-train-goes-missing-1.3224670 Has anyone heard about this or know anymore? From what I could glean, it sounds like the train departed Thunder Bay just after 7pm (on Monday, I think) and hasn't been seen since. |

This may be a recycled PennCentral story. |

They should search for it in Poland. |

reminds me of a story in the steam days, dont recall the railroad, some kid climbed aboard a sitting steam engine, opened the throttle and took off with the engine. Chase ensued and caught the engine and kid. The railroad tried to charge him with stealing a locomotive, but the locomotive never left the property. -rimshot- |

Philadelphia Afro-American, January 28, 1956 pg 5. On the PRR in Cleveland, though here it was a diesel switcher.

Quote: [from Facebook] Keith Motton Châteauguay, Quebec: I was wondering how long this'd take to show up. "This Is That" is a satire news programme. Among the stories they've covered: Edmonton has new source of revenue by logging city streets & selling the lumber. Montreal requires all dogs to respond to commands in French. Ok, so it turns out this was satire after all. Not being familiar with CBC, I (along with countless other "yankees") assumed this was a "normal" story. It was reasonably well done though and it got our attention. |

I'll bet that this "lost train" probably got shoved onto a track in a yard somewhere, or a siding out on the main and they lost it in the computer... Someone probably knows where it is, but because it isn't in the system (I'd assuming it's Umler?) the pencil-pushers probably have no clue where it is... |

Funny, maybe 20 years ago or more I was working beside CN's main line, the Dundas Sub, near Brantford, Ontario - CTC territory. The signals man came along in his van and took out his satchel and came over to me. I knew him. Asked me if I was hiding a VIA Rail train anywhere?!!? I said I didn't think so. He said he got a call from Edmonton controller (c2000 miles west) that westbound VIA (can't recall number) disappeared at 85 mph at that mileage and could he go check it out? I do believe they found it though! :) |
