So in 1966, the Southern Steam program formally kicked off at the NRHS Convention in Richmond. Next year will the the 50th anniversary to the beginning. So my question is, are there possible events being planned? With 611, 765, 4501, and 630 all back and all served in the prior program, will the program just be the same as last year, will there be more things going on, and will there even be trips at all. This is pure speculation and curiosity.

For one thing, the 21st Century Steam program is over. Begun in 2011, the program was conceived with a five-year life span, Norfolk Southern public relations director Susan Terpay wrote in an email. “We’ve fulfilled the program’s goals, and we are scaling back now.”

Not likely a gathering of steam for the 50th...

There wasn't 50 consecutive years, anyway.

There were several groups looking at doing something special next year, but the complexity was just too much. I would expect that TVRM will do something with Southern 4501 since they do have quite a bit of track to run on in the Chattanooga area.
