I thought it was supposed to be fired up this month. That was the word from one of the tours.
Lot of staybolts need be installed plus all the tubes/flues. Wonder if the door sheet is in yet?

Predicting the completion date of a steam locomotive restoration is about as easy as picking the winning lottery numbers. If we could do the second we'd have more of the first.

One OTHER thing we know for certain is that nobody has provided more big time steam entertainment, for more people, for free, than Uncle Pete.

Even though I'm retired from BN, I feel very lucky to live by the UP main. THANK YOU UNION PACIFIC, and best of luck with 844. Porter #6 and I will be ready for you next time you pass through Strasburg, Colorado.

Any time I look at a loco with clean staybolt caps I wonder if there has ever been an attempt to develop an insulation that could be "molded" to fit all of that yet removable and reusable. Yeah I know once you get to lagging material the cost is de minimis - just a curiosity of mine. (Lordy lagging is a messy thing to put on and take back off)

I have to wonder why all of the staybolt caps were replaced? That would be an interesting story in itself. But then there are a lot of things in there that I'm curious about.

You're not going to get any argument from me, Mr Moderator, you just did what needed to be done. All I wanted was for the mud slinging to stop.

Brother Dickens isn't the only lucky one, there are plenty of times in the past that the same action should have been taken, or taken sooner. I sure hope in the future that the policy of no personal attacks on RyPN will be consistantly applied, no matter who is involved, or who is right, or who is wrong.

Hume Kading intended for this site to be about railroad preservation when he founded it. Thanks to our many worthwhile members who actually use it for that purpose.

Piggy backing off that phrase, I stand by my original post asking about Ed's accomplishments. I asked because I don't know a.k.a gaining knowledge. CLEARLY, nobody took the time to read it.

Most in a position such as his in this industry have a well-known list of accomplishments and I'm ignorant to Mr. Dickens'. One normally will pose questions toward subjects they're unaware about. It was, as I stated, a 100% genuine question that was deleted by the moderators reasons unknown to me. My post was in no way aimed at starting a catfight amongst those in this forum. Quite frankly, I find it completely pathetic RYPN has degraded to the point where certain folks can't ask questions because it somehow offends other members.
