This is old hat to the Strasburg Rail Road and to an extent to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, but the Texas State is also working with this to help pay the bills.

Still going strong though! There are hopes there may be a new industry on the line some time in the future as well. The freight sure makes a nice change in pace from only running passenger excursions. After working on the train at Six Flags in Arlington, TSR was a big upgrade for me, glad to see the railroad growing again despite all the uncertainty after the state decided to leave.

I was out at the TSRR recently and it seemed like every siding and spur was filled with freight cars. It would appear that they're doing pretty well.

Here's a good question... Who over there oversees the freight ops?

Hi,

If all the spurs are filled with cars, I wonder if TSR is being paid to store off-line freght cars?

There is an ex-Georgia Railroad 10 mile branch (Monroe, Georgia) that is owned by a short line but not operated. Several miles of freight cars are stored on the "main line".

Doug,

Yes, it is my understanding that Tx State will be building a small yard/sidings to store more cars.

The freight ops are done by the same crews as the passenger trains. Iowa Pacific's name for us as a freight carrier is Rusk, Palestine & Pacific. Here's a link to the website on it: http://www.iowapacific.com/railroads/rusk-palestine-pacific-railroad.html
