I am makeing a pamphlet to give to MASS DoT to try to convince them to work with us in getting a F40PH I have made it short and sweet "The F40PH Preservation Society is a organization located in the state of Massachusetts with the goal of preserving railroad history and artifacts, especially those relating to F40PH locomotives, and to educate the public about these artifacts and historical information through collection, restoration, display, demonstration and interpretation.
By preserving one of these historic locomotives it will allow the general public to be able to interact with it one on one in a way not as possible or safe as it would be in an active railroad. A real F40PH
would be a much better aid to interpreting the history and workings. As an F40PH still operates on the same basic principle as today's modern diesel electric locomotives, it will help the public to get a better understanding
of the workings of a modern railroad locomotive. This locomotive could also be used in familiarizing and training first responders to railroad equipment.
The F40PH Preservation Society inc. is asking the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, to donate one of there retired EMD F40PH locomotives (units 1000 to 1017) so we may set up a public display that allows people to interact with a real locomotive in a safe environment while explaining the historical significance and technology of the unit."

Writeing is not my strong point and I would be happy for some insight.
Thanks,
Rowan C. de la Barre

Where do you plan on storing this engine you're requesting them to donate? Anybody can request for a locomotive. It's when you have a plan that they take you more serious. Them knowing that you actually have a place to put it will greatly increase your chances.

Too short.

What you've written is the introduction.

Now you need a section on:

*Why the F40PH is relevant and important;
*Why MBTA should be a part of this;
*What the plans are for any F40PH(s) that might be donated or sold for $1 or whatever;
*Where this loco or locos would operate or at least be stored;
*Who proposes to partner with you and how and why it fits.

These need not each be lengthy, but they do need to be factual.

You also need to figure out Plan B in case the MBTA legally has no choice but to sell the loco at tender, like NJ Transit just did with one (to the tune of over $80,000). And be advised that there are at least two serious buyers ready and waiting with cash should that happen.
