Hi,

I still vaguely recall riding the Crescent Limited (Southern Railway) from Montgomery AL to DC. The PRR from DC to Philly and then to Harrisburg when I was about 7. We lived in Montgomery in 1963-1965 (about 18 months).

Anyone else recall non-Amtrak passenger rides? I have previously posted the 1978 Southern Crescent ride with consist of all cars and locos. PM me for this (no need to take up more space on the same thing).

P.S.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys. I was about 12 when PRR disappeared and 15 when Amtrak took over. Southern joined Amtrak in 1979.

It dawned on me that those of us who do recall private passenger trains aught to record what it was like for those who know nothing but Amtrak and the ones like Septa and NJDOT.

Just like the old WWII, Korea and so forth wariers.

Please keep them coming.

My dad started with the ACL in the 1950s and retired from Southern Weighing & Inspection Bureau in the late 1980s at the formation of CSX (SWIB was going to be disbanded and absorbed back into the member railroads). The last day before Amtrak we road an SCL train between Wilson, NC and Rocky Mount, NC, I was 4 years old, and while I don't really remember it I do have snap shots from boarding the train in Wilson.

The last Auto Train was 1981.

The last Rio Grande Zephyr was 1983.

Supposedly Brightline will begin service in between Miami, Florida and Orlando, Florida in the summer of 2017.
