I have never really watched it but I was surprised George Carlin originally hosted it.

Actually, Thomas was originally hosted by Ringo Star (You know, From the Beetles.) George Carlin wouldn't come into the picture with season 3, and he also renarrated Seasons 1 And 2, which Ringo had originally done for the American audience. Holy Cow though, George does a phenomenal job with Donald and Douglas! Thomas itself starting in season 3, way up until season 17, there were different narrators (and since season 13 with the switch to CGI in 2009, different voice actors.) depending on whether you were in the US and UK. After Ringo, Michael Angelis Took over as narrator, narrating the series until season 16. In the US, After Carlin, Alec Baldwin Narrated Thomas During Seasons 5 and 6, and then Michael Brandon narrated the series from season 7 to season 16, until Mark Morghan took over as the US and UK narrator by season 17. As of Big World, Big Adventures, the “revamped” Thomas series, Thomas will be the narrator.
