Vintage railroad passenger cars, Overland Trail and Pacific Trail are making their way to Chicago to participate in the new "Autumn Colors Express" (the old "New River Train"). The cars will travel within Amtrak's Southwest Chief ONE WAY. We will be selling overnight chair car space as well as "short haul" segments.
We'll depart Los Angeles Oct 18 in style on the old Santa Fe route to Chicago. Enroute, we'll enjoy meals (appropriate to the time of day) prepared fresh on board, great scenery and on board ambiance, plus excellent company with like minded travelers. Meals will basically be served family style ... that is, we'll all share the same entree. Various beverages will be available at no additional charge (coffee, hot tea, milk, juices).
The Overland Trail is a 1949 built, former Southern Pacific club lounge with a stunning 39 seat main salon, an exquisite quarter circle bar and the only fully operable railroad barbershop anywhere (sorry, no barber scheduled to be aboard).
The Pacific Trail is a 1950 built, former Union Pacific long distance chair car. Here is a RARE opportunity to "time travel" back to the days (not that long ago!) when coast to coast rail travel by economical chair car was still in vogue.
Fares are based on mileage traveled: If you travel less than 200 miles, the fare is 60 cents a mile. If you travel 200 miles or over, the fare is 35 cents a mile. Use the link below to see Amtrak's schedule for the Southwest Chief, train 4.

Although we have 70 total seats aboard the two cars, there are only 40 chair car seats for overnight travelers ... make your reservations early!
This will surely be a fantastic trip reminiscent of the streamliners from days of old. Our overnight accommodations will be in the chair car, while during the day, we'll enjoy the first class ambiance of the lounge car. Day riders are welcome to join us in the lounge for the duration of their trip.
