toot - We have a set of PRR caboose markers that we use at our museum. Of course, these are still kerosene powered and not converted to battery power. Here is a photo of Conductor Mike C. as he starts to take down the markers after the last run of the day on March 30, 2024. We don't have a PRR caboose at the museum, so the markers are being used on Elgin, Joliet & Eastern caboose # 510 in the photo.

It sounds like you got a set of Star 805 portable markers.

These indeed use two 6V "lantern" batteries. These popped up in the mid-late 1960's. The lenses should rotate, so the red portion can always face to the rear, and the amber to the oncoming train side. They also rotate so they can be parallel to the tracks, as some brackets were on the rear, and some were right on the corners.

LESS BECKMAN & NOVA55, THANKING YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR THE Great INFORMATION YOU SUPPLIED TO MY QUESTION. YES THE TOP DOES SWIEVEL, red and orange. I did not know that. it is marked with a metal sticker that says, JULIAN A. Mc DERMOTT. CORP. RIDGEWOOD.NY. I got it at a local flea market for $15.00 the guy wanted $ 20.00. so I jumped on it, even if it was a battery operated one.

I forgot to mention, that it does have a metal piece on the rear that would slide into a bracket on the rear of the caboose.toot.
