(For those of us within driving distance of SRC)

Is anyone interested in getting together for a picnic & train ride on the Strasburg? Josh Blay suggested going on a day when two trains are running. I like that thinking.

So: What I propose is a going on Sunday July 15th. Doing the shop tour at 12 and then taking a train to the picnic grove. People could stay as long as they felt like it. Those of us that have kids can make use the of the play ground at the grove. The little kids could stay busy while us big kids discuss important matters like T-1's and QJ's!

I'd be willing to handle the logistics and buy some name tags etc.

I realize that 7/15 may not be good for everyone, but I thought we better start somewhere. We could always do it twice this summer!

Best Regards,

Alan S. Levy

I like the idea, but will have to fly out. What's the nearest airline airport to Strasburg?

Several options. Where are you located? Harrisburg, Phila, BWI are all with in reason. If it is Philly we might be able to help with transportation. Tom Gears and I are both within 45 min of Philly.

Love the idea. Cannot commit to the date right now, but would attend if able.

I'm all for it. I'm only a 35-minute drive from Strasburg, so basically any Saturday or Sunday in July/August will work. I may not be a regular poster, but I have been here for over two years and check the forums regularly. Count me in.

A very nice idea, but the heat, the high gasoline prices, and the difficulty getting anywhere on a weekend at this time of year without being stuck in traffic gridlock for hours, all are working against it. Strasburg is an easy drive for us at other times of the year, but not in the summer. I would suggest you try late September or October.

I was within what would normally be a two hour drive from there today, and it took just about two hours to drive about thirty miles in all the traffic.

I'll have to check with she who must be obeyed, but I think it would be doable for the two of us.

It would be worthwile starting a tradition of RYPN gatheringd in conjunction ith the TRAIN, ARM and RPCA conventions. More to do than just dinner and a train ride.

I'll try to come out if I'm not working.

No promises, but if I can find a cheap flight I may make a run at it....

I'd be interested in this. I live in Philly --- if someone needs picked up at the Philly airport that's not a problem it's on the way for me. PM me and I can give you my contact info.

While Duty Calls and I'm in the South Pacific right now with the US Military, making this get together isn't possible but soon I'll be finished with my work and returning home to Roanoke Virginia and would be more than happy to join in any future gatherings post Nov of 2007. Please keep us posted on what I feel would be a great gathering...

I think its a very good idea, those who can make it will, perhaps we can do it again in the fall to meet more people.

I have no trouble getting to Strasburg any time of the year. You just have to stay off of route 30.

And gas is still relatively cheap. I had more trouble affording gas in the '70s than I do today.
