Please tell us the tale, if you know of any preserved or surviving tell-tale warning structures. I know of four, one before the overpass at McMullen Summit on the EBT, another at at Rockingham, NH, Jacks Mountain Tunnel in PA, and also on the WM in Staunton, VA,

There are tell-tales on both sides of the I-75 overpass in Monroe, MI. You can clearly see them in Google Street View:

There's a "tell-tale" in South Pasadena (CA) on the former Union Pacific Pasadena Branch. The track has been gone for over 30 years, but the iron-pipe structure is still there, just south of the Columbia Ave. bridge. It's visible from the Gold Line light rail trains that run on the former Santa Fe route adjacent to the abandoned UP right-of-way. One preservation group was trying to figure out how to move it to a place where it could be exhibited, rather than seen briefly from a moving train and asked my thoughts. Removing the structure from its present location in one piece would be very awkward, considering that it's a tall inverted "L" shape. My suggestion would be to take measurements and build a replica. Note that these structures are no longer needed on FRA regulated railroads because personnel are not permitted on top of moving trains.

The Pacific Locomotive Association's Niles Canyon Railway installed a replica tell-tale on the Eastern approach to Farwell Bridge a couple years ago.

The building and installation of the tell-tale was part of a Boy Scout project. PLA has sponsored many railroad merrit badge projects with the Boy Scouts over the past few years including railcar restoration and station/yard signs along the right of way.

There is at least one on the Cumbres & Toltec, at the west end of the "Rock Tunnel." I can't remember for sure if there are any others. Been 5 years since I've been there.

There are several double track style telltales still located on the abandoned remains of the NYC Putnam Division just north of the site of BN tower, the junction with the Hudson Division in the Bronx. They are right beside the Major Deegan Expwy (I-87) between 230th and 233rd St. They are only visible in winter as they have been almost totally engulfed in vegetation.

Here in Scranton, at Bridge 60 (the big bridge at the west end of Steamtown, and home of my tower) there are the remnants of telltales on the CNJ where it passed under the DL&W under extreme west end of the span.

I think the actual "tales" are gone, but the two steel poles and the wire between them remain standing.

The Whitewater Valley Railroad has a pair that the Big Four put up near the former B&O (CSX) overpass. These are on the extreme north end of our property where we seldom operate. They have been featured in some of our photo freight activities.

There's one in the Royal Gorge in Colorado just west of the Hanging Bridge.

The double track one on the former B&M Northern Main, now the Claremont & Concord, in West Lebanon, NH is a favorite of mine.

There was one on the CNJ row in Ashley, PA but I think I heard it vanished in recent years. Track has been gone for 20 years or so.

There is one on what is now the Cannon Valley Trail which was the Chicago Great Western a few miles west of Red Wing, south of the Highway 61 underpass.

On a trip to Canada last week I came upon a pair protecting the abandoned Canada Southern (CASO) located on the Ontario Southland's ex-CP Tilsonburg Spur in Tilsonburg Ontario.
