Photo of N&W roundhouse at Williamson, WV, now used as a carshop by NS. Is this the last complete N&W steam-era facility?

Probably the last one. Two comments of personal note. I missed the shot of 611 turning on the table and going through the open portion of the turntable in 1992 on a Portsmouth to Williamson RT. This was the only time N&W steam used it since the Oct 59 611 trip from Ronaoke to Williamson.

I headed to Wendy's to get lunch before they got busey figuring it would be awhile before the engine got to the roundhouse...wrong!!! I was PO'd the rest of the day, but did get a nice shot of 611 leaving by the flood wall! That was the last time I shot 611 west of Portsmouth!

On a brighter note, a couple of years ago I had my late father's 8mm movies transfered to Betacam-SP tape in case I wanted to do something with it, and to preserve it. There is a ton of N&W of course, and he made a trip to Williamson in early 1960, about a month before the end of steam. There are some shots of the roundhouse, and some 0-8-0's, and lots of dead articulateds. There is a plume or two of smoke from the roundhouse. Only a couple of Y's were operating at this time, the rest being 0-8-0's. I think one 0-8-0 and one Y6 were in steam on the last day of steam in Williamson, ending N&W steam in I believe March 1960, or early April!

Ahhhhh Greg any chance we'll see that footage??? As an N&W foamer I'm thinking that would be really nice to see. Hint-hint.

Sorry to necro this thread but the Williamson roundhouse is apparently slated for demolition, according to a FB post (though I would classify it as "rumor" until confirmed):
