Stupidity used as a defense, and they both avoided jail time. It boggles the mind.

Thank goodness the theft was foiled and the culprits caught in time, even if the punishment was inadequate.

This might be a good time to bring back the stocks, or public flogging!

The two men have been charged with felony theft. There hasn't been a trial yet, thus no determination of guilt yet, thus no punishment yet. The article doesn't say whether they bailed out or released on own recognizance. It seems like they wouldn't be hard to find if they failed to show up in court.

Ah, right... "Neither has been jailed" had me fooled.

I still vote for public flogging!

I see this as a morality story...

I got a chance to visit the Northwest Railway Museum last year... I was impressed... a nice depot with displays, the centerpiece of the town... A large collection of derelict locomotives in a fenced area to the west... weeds cut, nice signs and a jogging trail...

To the east along their rail line is a modern shop, turning out good work, and a really nice car house... not yet occupied when I visited...

Everything I saw said that the community embraced the museum...

When rails were taken a neighbor called it in... the rails were recovered... the bad guys... The police took the whole think seriously...

A good museum, which is a good neighbor, saved by it's neighbors...

The Northwest Railroad museum was not always known as a good neighbor... they were once the local railroad junk yard... they have over a period of time, though hard work remade themselves... in a wonderful way, with great success...
