I think Juniata's ex-B&O E8a was cut up after they removed the cab, trucks, and other useful parts.

MOT does have an FTB carbody from the Southern. Like the one at VMT, it was converted into a steam generator car by the Southern. Unlike the one at VMT, it is in it's Southern configuration, and pretty rough overall.

Now then, what about hood B units? Besides the GP60B's and C30-7A(B)'s that is. Any vintage B's left?

Steve

BNSF recently comissioned Metro East Industries of East St. Louis, IL to convert one of the GP60Bs into a regular GP60, using an ex UP unit cab and nose. If they like it, they may end up doing more.

Didn't the ICG convert some GP7Bs and GP9Bs into "Paducah Geeps"?

On a side note, I was told there was an actual surviving SHARK B unit in PA as late as the mid 80's. Is that true???

Shark B is discussed here: http://nepa.railfan.net/breakers/pbshark.htm

Wesley

It should be noted that this Shark "B" unit once had a ALCO 12-251 engine in it. The Pennsy had ALCO rebuild it and a pair of "A" units all re-powered with 12=251's.

I'm not sure where that unit is at the moment, but I'm sure where it's not. :)

The Spirit of Washington Dinner Train no longer operates, and nothing of the operation is left in Renton.

The dinner train is for sale, at a bit under $1.5 million, but the B unit does not appear to be included in the consist.

http://www.trains-trams-trolleys.com/home/spirit.htm

Also, reviewing my photos of the operation when it shut down and them moved (briefly) to Tacoma, WA, there was no B unit to be seen at that time. They had a baggage/power car that looked a bit like a B unit, since it was painted like the locomotives, but it was definitely a baggage car.

They may have had one at one time, but it's current location is a mystery to me...

This shot seems to show a B unit, back in 1994. Not sure when it ceased operating.

http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=74517

Also note that the number should be WDT 101 (WCRC 101?) not 107. There's a photo on this page: http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/sho ... p?p=240168 that clearly shows both the lettering on the HEP / Baggage car to be 107 and leaves no doubt about the heritage of that car and that it's not a B unit.

On New year's Eve, 12-31-2010, my wife and I rode the Canon City and Royal Gorge dinner train. The second unit was a working F-7B.
AB on head end and A on rear end for push pull operation A total of 3 F units.

Some details for the E9B formerly parked in yard 4 at the IRM, with photos.

RDAs list shows
E8B Wisconsin & Southern RR Cudahy WI EMD 1955 W&S 102 20507 ex UP 967B, Amt / MN 671

Mich North Roster with 671
http://www.railroadmichigan.com/mignroster.html
That list also mentions Amtrk 467:1?

Not sure of details but its with WSOR now as WSOR 102.
https://www.wsorrailroad.com/fan/gallery.html
Scroll down to an August 2008 post. Originally Union Pacific E9, 967B.
WSOR claiming the only fully operational E9 A-B-A set in the U.S.
Looks really good.

The unit has two welded number plates inside…

970B looks more original than the 967B ??

So was it originally an E8 or E9?

Weren't there some B units at LTV/Erie mining? Also seems like there was an E B-unit at Heart of Dixie NRHS in Birmingham years ago? One of the F9Bs at ACWR is privately owned. It also seems like Wacamaw Coast Line had a TR B-unit at one time, possibly BRC?

Speaking of ICG GP9B's......The dinner train in Eustis FL. had one. Their GP unit 8330 was a paducah rebuild of a GP9B. has a pretty distictive cab, similar to a GP38 style cab. can't find my pics of it, but there should be a few online.... I heard it went to a museum in Parrish recently.....
I'm pretty sure theres an FTB at southeastern in Georgia.......saw it in 2007, looked like a heater car conversion.

Either way it was an E9B, according the authoritative lists maintained by Don Strack.

The numbers were welded on the roof hatches, which are easily swapped between units.
