I've been scanning a bunch of my old 35mm negatives and I've run across a photo that I made at Alna,ME in June 1995. What engine is that in the photo? I've done some surfing on the web and haven't come up with anything. Could it be one of the Anaconda engines from Edaville?

I remember peaking through the cracks in the door and could see WW&F #9. What a thrill! Alas, I haven't been back to Maine since that trip.

It left the WW&F many years ago (pre-2000) to the Beaver Brook Farm in Hollis, NH. I don't know how/when it was transferred to the Silver Lake Railroad.

It's a former granite hauling locomotive on one of the Maine islands, might have been Deer Isle/Stonington. The engine ended up on display in Freeport, Maine, at the Freeport Trading Post store next to a gigantic Indian, back when I-95 and US Rt 1 shared directional lanes through there (that would be 70s/80s). It ended up at the WW&F when the then-current president decided we needed something out front to prove to the world that we were a railroad museum -at the time we had no track visible.

It was sold to Ed Gilbert in New Hampshire in the late 1990s and went into his collection, which included lots of former Edaville equipment.

I have no idea if this loco is similar to the one being discussed in this thread.

I saw a picture of that engine on steamlocomotive.info, and I'm positive that that is not the same engine. The engine we had (rightly or wrongly, we called it the "Crotch Island Engine") was standard gauge. The Anthony's Pier engine is a 30" gauge engine, and too small to boot.

I'm not convinced that the engine at Silver Lake is our old engine, because it looks too small. But that could be because it doesn't have the saddle tank on it.

The steam locomotive in front of Anthony's Pier 4 has been there for decades. In fact it was there when I worked on Northern Avenue back in the 1970's. Anthony's also had the SS Peter Styuvesant docked next to the restaurant. Unfortunately the ship was destroyed during the blizzard of '78. The little 0-4-0 is clearly visible in the photo below, on the right, in the same spot she occupies today.
