For Sale or Trade

Northern Ohio Railway Museum is offering for sale or trade the carbody of Cincinnati and Lake Erie Interurban combine #101. This is an empty carbody only with no trucks, mechanical or electrical equipment. Any items presently stored in the body are not part of what is being offered.

BACKGROUND

Car 101 was built in Cleveland for the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton Railway by the Kuhlman Car Company in 1927. It is a single ended, arch roof, steel Interurban combine. This line ran between its namesake southwestern Ohio cities. It joined the C&LE fleet when the Cincinnati & Lake Erie was formed in 1929. When the C&LE shut down, the car bodies of 101 and 105 were sold off in 1939. They became part of a pottery business in Southwestern Ohio. In 1977 the Museum acquired both carbodies. Our interest was only in obtaining one car, but the deal was both cars had to be acquired together. Car 105 was selected to join the museums' collection and is awaiting its day for restoration. Car 101 was never a part of the museum collection and we used it as a storage shed. The carbody needs to move from where it presently is. So it is either a new home or scrap.

The car body is 54'7" long, 8'11" wide and when sitting on original trucks would be 12'2" tall. Published weight of a fully equipped car was 57,380. We have no idea of the weight of the empty carbody only.

If anyone is interested in this carbody, please make an offer. If you wish additional information, please contact me and I'll endeavor to answer your query.

Attached are some photographs. One is of this series car when new at the Kuhlman Factory in 1927. The others are more recent views of 101's carbody.

Thank You,

Steve Heister

Steve, how badly racked is the body? It seems to have developed a noticeable twist. also, what happened to the open end of the car? Will it need to be completely refabbed?

Are any of the larger hardware items such as trucks, etc. included? Is the other car headed for a full resto or will it sit as well?

C.
