I know what you mean.

I think I figured out #9, perhaps a C&A Pacific?

Also I meant to say thank you for putting this up, it is really challenging picking my own memory and researching these engines...a lot of fun.

Correct.

All that is left is #3, #6, and #7.

Question Re WM 205:

What is on the smokebox front at about 2 and 10 'o clock ? it almost looks like the bells of air horns.

They are purely decorative. Several WM K1's and K2's had them. WM crews, especially on the East end of the road, were really proud of their passenger locomotives and dressed them up nicely. That's not to say the guys on the West end weren't proud, but the East was where the money and the tourism was.

Going back to the original set, I recognized image 'E', FEC 148, more by the number than anything else. That must be a very early picture. As I remember the engine, from Black River and Whippany River (the late '60s on, and as photos bear out) she has full steps to the running boards, and a horizontal rail connecting handrails inside of the full steps. Also, the class lights are much higher in more recent times. I do know that Black River moved the headlight forward, I believe to give the engine a more family appearance with former Great Western 60. But when did these other changes take place? And these changes give some ammo to the 'historic fabric' argument, that railroads were constantly making changes to their equipment, replacing parts, upgrading appliances, etc.

I saw that engine the day it arrived at Black River, and spent time on it there, at Morristown and Erie, and on the two trips Mainline Steam Foundation ran with it way back in 1975. Its really a shame that she now sits in Colorado, apparently in pieces. I'd love to see her back east and running again; she was the 'right sized' engine to operate in a lot of places. Well, OK, maybe not at Cumberland...
