We all get caught up up the big projects, save the station/locomotive/passenger car, etc. But the small stuff is important, too and is a part of telling the story of railroad history. Here is an album of one of our small projects. Working on it has been a good change of pace from the aforementioned large projects

That's a neat little shed. Was it whitewashed at one time?

Today the roof was painted with aluminum sealing paint. We're planning on working on painting the exterior next weekend. After consulting with the N&W archives, the correct paint colors have been determined to be cream with brown trim.

Today we reached a milestone on the exterior restoration. We've finished the wood and roof repair, built replacement windows, and completed the exterior paint. We still need to paint the roof the proper red for N&W buildings of this era, but until we get a dry day we're moving on to fitting out the interior and getting the coal stove working.

Current appearance compared with how the building looked when we rescued it.

One of the amazing things about this project is that is still about 80% original fabric, the only replacement wood is the rear wall, some framing, and the door and a few miscellaneous boards. After completion, it is going to VMT as an exhibit.

Nice job. Well one. Must be particularly pleasing to do such a job in quick time. I've been slogging away at my pet project for 13 years and probably have another 13 to go!
Cheers, Bob

Classic railroad architecture, once again. Terrific!

This weekend we made some more progress on the building. The new wood inside was stained to match the existing building. We also installed the stove and metal backing (which was salvaged from a pair of old doors). We're planning on adding a small desk in the other corner, a pair of chairs, and a caboose lamp to the interior as well.

With the stove installed, and the sliding windows completed, I guess you could say that we are now done with the HVAC work for this project...

OK then....you're "fired"! (Or at least I expect you will be when it gets a tad cooler.)
