An episode of the NBC thriller/drama "Chicago Fire" filmed at the Illinois Railway Museum recently is scheduled for broadcast on Tuesday, November 19that 10 PM, 9 PM Central and Pacific time, on NBC (and available afterwards via online streaming at http://www.nbc.com/chicago-fire/ ).

The episode features "derailed" tank cars on fire (and presumably threatening to explode) along with a set of restored C&NW galley cars in yellow and green..... and I *thought* I saw a brief glimpse of an E8 in the promo.....

Did anyone notice that they rescued someone from an ex-PRR trailer in a previous episode?

ctjacks -

Was the ex-PRR trailer also located at IRM?

No - this scene was shot in the south side of Chicago, north of I-55 in the vicinity of Ashland Avenue, where there is open land. Probably just dumb luck they got an ex-PRR trailer. You could clearly see where the keystone was on the end door.

Engine was F-7A, CNW 411 with our Bi-Level train temporarily vinyled over to The “Chicago Commuter Rail Authority”
It was definitely a big production for a single TV episode. It was interesting to see the huge amount of detail work put into setting up and shooting.
Two Bi-Levels and a tank car were gingerly craned into the open area between barn 9 and the steam coal-loading track to simulate a crash and derailment.
The North West Herald did a story…

…and some photos.

Plenty of IRM members were on hand to watch but we were asked not to share photos until after the show aired.

Chris -

Sounds like something IRM should look into acquiring for their collection. Wouldn't mind having it at Hoosier Valley.
