Post subject: Abandoned 3' Gauge Museum Operation in Ohio
PostPosted: Sun Aug 10, 2014 11:05 pm

I was traveling through Ohio along Ohio Route 16 when I caught sight of some kind of abandoned museum operation along the road. To my surprise the property has a very large complete loop of 3 foot gauge track as well several pieces of rolling stock. The rolling stock includes two Plymouth industrial switchers (one has been modified into a poor mans James from Thomas the Tank) several mine carts with seats, and several flatcars.

The railroad has obviously not seen operation in quite sometime and I took video of the property:

Anyone know the story behind this place???

Boilerwash, apparently after you posted this here, someone on YouTube responded with a comment there that had this link:

Apparently this was a private collection that was opened up once a year for a show. The owner has now passed away, and the collection is now sitting as you saw it.

It looks like an advantage of really small town living is a relative lack of vandalism; I was surprised at the good cosmetic condition of some of the equipment, including the yellow critter.

The yellow critter looks like a "mate" to "Old Smokeless" the 3-foot switcher in the Grizzly Flats collection at Orange Empire, although neither of the 3-foot gauge steamers is presently operable, "Smokeless" means we can operate on three different gauges.

A google search for the antique power association dredges up this article in the Columbus newspaper back from 2008:

I'm guessing that the "club" just sort of fell apart after the death of the guy that was attempting to build all of this. The idea was simple enough and the "museum" as it were would be cheap to run and would really only need a general cleaning up as it is. Turning it into a "tourist trap" to get a few people off the the parkway would take a little effort but most of the heavy lifting has already been done.

The isolation of the place I assume is what keeps any attempt by a group to revive it unless the family is holding onto the property.

Theres a sizeable group just 20 miles down the road that maintains and operates the Mill Creek Central live steam scale operation in Cosochton. Seems like having a 3 foot gauge outfit to play with would have interested them.

I found this place on Bing Maps in Bird's-eye-view.http://binged.it/1uiMmJ9
As you rotate the map around it changes seasons and various changes of completion.
